We’ve made an important change to how our WordPress plugins connect to your Pipedrive CRM account. Previously, you may have used a personal API key to link your site with Pipedrive. We’re now moving to a more modern, secure method: OAuth.

This change is part of our ongoing commitment to improving security, compatibility, and ease of use for all our users.

What Is OAuth?

OAuth (short for Open Authorisation) is a secure industry-standard method for connecting apps and services. Instead of copying and pasting an API key from your Pipedrive account, OAuth allows you to log in to Pipedrive and grant permission with just a few clicks.

Why the Change?

While API keys are simple to use, they have limitations when it comes to security and user control. OAuth offers several important benefits:

  • Improved Security
OAuth tokens can be scoped and revoked individually. That means if you ever want to remove access, you can do so from your Pipedrive account without affecting other apps or services.
  • No Need to Handle API Keys
No more copying long strings of characters from your Pipedrive account. With OAuth, simply click a “Connect” button and authorise access through the official Pipedrive login screen.
  • Future-Proof
OAuth is now Pipedrive’s recommended connection method and the industry standard for integrations. It ensures compatibility with future updates and features from both Pipedrive and our plugin.
  • Better User Management
If multiple people manage your CRM or site, OAuth allows them to authenticate with their own credentials—no need to share a single API key between team members.

What Do I Need to Do?

In your plugin settings, you’ll now see a new “Connect to Pipedrive” button. Click it, sign in to your Pipedrive account, and authorise the connection. That’s it—no manual API key entry required.

Note: Once you connect via OAuth, the older API key method will be disabled for your site. We recommend updating as soon as possible to avoid any interruptions.

Still Using an API Key?

If you’re still using the older API key method, we encourage you to switch over at your earliest convenience. It’s quick and easy, and ensures your connection is up to date with the latest security practices.

If you have any questions or need help connecting your plugin with OAuth, our support team is here to help.
