We have added loads of features to Campaign Tracker, this articles walks you through all of the changes, be prepared there is a lot in here!

Campign-Tracker-4.x

Strap on in, this is big! We are releasing version 4.x of our WordPress plugin Campaign Tracker. This is the largest update we have done, there are loads of new features. This article will walk you through the update from start to finish.

The update will be available early June 2025. More details here.

Not sure what Campaign Tracker is?

It’s a WordPress plugin designed to help users track marketing campaign related data on their websites. It integrates with various form plugins to capture and store important marketing data. Data like the URL of the first landing page a visitor sees when they arrive on the site, the referrer (where did they come from?), even advanced data like Google’s click ID.

The plugin stores the data and then when a user completes a form on your website, the data is made available to send in hidden fields in your form. It might be sent via email with the form entry, or you might be setup to send your form data into your CRM or other similar system. once again the data from Campaign Tracker is able to sent into these kinds of tools.

New Data Points

We have added a whole new set of data points to the plugin, in what we now call Basic Fields, you can get straight to the important information that you need from your marketing.

Sure, you can use all of the other fields that previous versions featured (these are now called Advanced Fields) but for many users the Basic Fields will get you exactly what you need. And these Basic Fields are smart.

In the screenshot below, A shows the new Basic Fields (Channel and attributes) while B holds all of the other fields available.

Basic Fields – what are they?

There are five data points to work with here, let’d dig into what they do

Channel: this will provide you a segment of where the user came from. You will get values like “Search Engine”, “Referring Website”, “Direct Traffic”, “Referring Website”, “Email”, “Paid Search” or “Social Media”

This field gives you a high level break down of the source of your visitor, making it super easy to see which of your marketing efforts are working the best.

Attribute 1: this field is dynamic based on the channel above. If the channel is “Social Media”, attribute 1 will tell you the specific social media network; Facebook, Instagram etc.. Instead, if the channel is “Search Engine” attribute 1 will tell you the name of the search engine (eg “Google”).

Attribute 2: will always give you the referring URL, the URL of the search engine, or the social media post etc..

Attribute 3: shows you the device type the visitor is using. “Computer”, “Mobile”, “Other”. Simplifying how to sort the enquiries of mobile phone users against computers.

Attribute 4: this will always show you the landing page URL, ie what was the first page in your website that the visitor landed on.

This table summarises the values you can expect in these new basic fields.

Welcome Fluent Forms users

Version 4.0 features new support for Fluent Forms, another WordPress form building plugin. Like the many others we support, Fluent Forms users can now easily integrate all of this marketing data directly into their forms as hidden fields.

Forminator Forms, you’re welcome too!

Version 4.0 does not stop there, we also now have built in support for Forminator Forms from the guys at WPMU. Same interface, same everything pretty much. So if Forminator Forms is your go to form build for WordPress, Campaign Tracker is able to work with your setup.

Performance Improvements

Version 4.0 also features a number of tweaks to make the plugin load faster and more robustly in different environments. The plugin licensing section of the plugin has also had significant improvements. There are many minor improvement that have been included in version 4.0 based on user feedback.

How to get the update

If you have an active licence, version 4.x is a free update. Look in the plugins or update section of your WordPress dashboard to install the update. If your licence has expired chat to our support team on how you can renew it now to get access to this new version of the plugin.
