We have released today version 1.3 for Featured Images for Categories Pro, included are many items that users have requested over the past few weeks. This post outlines all of the new functionality.

Not sure what this plugin is all about? In short it gives you the ability to set a featured image for a category, tag or any custom taxonomy, then display those images in a variety of ways. Check out the full information and video demonstrating Featured Images for Categories here.

New shortcode tools

The shortcode has three major updates:

  • Turn on or off the display of the category name under the featured image
  • Turn on or off the display of the category description, also under the featured image
  • Limit the categories that are displayed using category IDs

The screenshot here shows the first of these, an example page showing the category names underneath the featured image (click this image for a larger view).

Developer access to featured images

Version 1.3 also has a simple to use function for developers to access these featured images and use from within their code.

The function accepts a category id and a taxonomy id as well as an optional image size and will simply return the URL of the featured image so that it can be used as required.
