13 November 2018It’s been a little while coming but today we have launched the reboot of what was our very first WordPress plugin, WP Stock Ticker. The original plugin used the Yahoo Finance to source data from stock markets around the globe. Then Yahoo closed down their API making our plugin and many other tools like it obsolete. Today, a brand new plugin WP Stock Ticker Plus is available right here.
Enter Alpha Advantage
… to save the data source day! A community that builds APIs specifically for stock and currency markets around the globe. They make this data freely available to anyone that would like to use it. So, we have been working for the past few months on a complete rewrite of our original plugin to work with this new data source.
However, it’s not just the old plugin with a new data source inserted! Sure, we took some inspiration from our original work but we’ve rewritten the whole plugin. You now have a lot of flexibility in how you make your tickers and arrange them, plus we now have support for crypto currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
A brand new interface
The new plugin has a slick interface that makes creating and editing tickers and tiles a breeze. The screenshot below shows you the main ticker interface and some samples being created.
WordPress Gutenberg
Gutenberg is the new WordPress editor that is coming November 2018. We’re very excited to say that we already have built in support for Gutenberg. If you’re using the new editor you will see support for a number of blocks, making it easy to insert your stock ticker or tile into your content.
In this example you can see the crypto currency ticker block.
Not using Gutenberg? That’s ok too. We have some easy to use shortcodes that can be entered into your page content or programatically injected into your theme’s template files. Each object (ticker or tile) shows you the shortcode you need to use to display it.
